Badminton Into Schools
Initiative (BISI)
Resources
The BISI resources give support to teachers and coaches in delivering
high quality badminton in schools for young people ages 4 to 16. The resources
are available as a series of games ideas and activity cards which are
organised into packs suited to particular age ranges.
1. Bisi Activity Cards - Pack A: KS1/2 (age 4-9)
All sets in the series will be 20 double sided cards displaying warm ups
and activities including a wide range of ideas and developments, but do
not cover the "how" to do skills, just the activities.
2. Bisi Activity Cards - Pack C: KS2/3 (age 9-14)
Pack C introduces racket skills and focuses on game based practice and
routines. Suitable for children aged 9 to 14 years.
BISI Festivals
BISI Festivals are an ideal introduction to badminton for key stage 2
children (7-11 years). Festivals are delivered as a series of skill based
activities which provide the opportunity for success and progression by
teachers/coaches.
Festivals also align with the national curriculum by providing the opportunity
to:
· Acquire and develop skills
· Select and apply skills and tactics
· Evaluate and improve performance, whilst developing teamwork
If you would like to take part in a BISI festival or are interested in
hosting one then contact Matt Hanson – matthanson@badmintonengland.co.uk

Resources Update
The BIG approach to badminton
identifies the principal 7 ‘Primary Movements’ and gives teachers
and coaches a theoretical basis from which to plan and structure practical
and fun lessons and coaching sessions.
The principles of the 7
movements (gait, squat, lunge, bend/flexion, push, pull and rotate/twist),
are utilised and reinforced through each subsequent stage of player development,
alongside supporting the principles of LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development).
The BIG programme is a
new concept in the delivery of the game, and builds on developing the
complex skills of badminton through a solid and complete foundation of
movement literacy.
