Player Performance & Skills Coaching

Listed below are some of the skill development courses running within the county. Not an exhaustive list, it will hopefully help you find the course you want. Further details will be added on page updates. All the coaches listed have recognised BAofE coaching qualifications.

Note that many of the courses shown run only within the school term time. Please contact the coach or sports centre for details.

For special coaching arrangements, one to one coaching or school/club sessions, contact any of the coaches listed below.

South Staffs Area & Wolverhampton

As well as the above courses, Patrick Lucas on 07900 652899 is available for private 1-2-1 or small group coaching. Steve Griffiths and Patrick Lucas are both Carlton sponsored coaches and can provide advice and assistance in purchasing the right Carlton racket to suit your needs. They also offer a repair & restringing service and the fitting of new grips.

Stafford Area

Coach Matt Evanson is available for after-school coaching and one to one sessions in the Stafford area. Call him on 01785 812967.

A beginners session from 4:0 pm on Fridays, at Westbridge Park, Stafford Road, Stone, may be run. please contact the contre, on 01785 619600 for details.

As well as the above courses, Diane Allen on 01785 245667 is available for private 1:1 or small group coaching, and school sessions.

The SSBA has launched a course for Primary School year 4/5/6 children at Weston Road High School on Saturday evenings, 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Contact Andy Aspinal, 01782 326364 for details.

Penkridge Leisure Centre, Cannock Road (next to Wolgarston School), Penkridge - Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:00 pm juniors, 7:00 - 8:00 pm adults run by Geri Brookes on 01902 721282

East Staffs Area

Alan Rogers & Greg Rogers are both Coaches Part 2 and members of the East Staffs Badminton Development Group. As well as providing the coaching programme for the Barton Junior Badminton Club they are available for small group and 1:1 coaching.
Alan is also currently available for after school clubs in the East Staffs School Sports Partnership network.
Greg also provides a restringing service, plus the fitting of new grips, and as a Carlton sponsored coach can offer advice and assistance in purchasing Carlton rackets at competitive rates.

North Staffs Area / Stoke

Ken Steele runs many skill and performance improvement courses in the northern part of the county. He can be contacted on 01782 619911. A list of current courses is shown below. Individual, 1:1 coaching is also available from Ken on request.
And if it's the racket that's letting you down, Ken offers a repair and restring service, plus the fitting of new grips!

Juniors

The Junior Jubilee Singles Tournament will be held at Clayton Sport Centre on Saturday 10th November and Sunday 11th November.

Adults

Andy Aspinal also provides badminton courses and 1:1 coaching session, and is the County Juniors' Coach,.

Matt Hanson (our new Development Officer!) is also available to coach in the North Staffs/Stoke area and Stafford areas, either to coach one to one and also groups. He has experience of working with a range of players from beginner to international level.

Matt's coaching qualifications include a 2:1 degree in Coach education and Sports Development and the Badminton England Coach part one.

Matt has represented England in all the junior age groups and is amongst the top 15 players in the country. Most recently represented Great Britain at the World Student Games, and hope to help Staffs get into Premier B this season!!
